The purpose of this picture is to show one of the simplest ways to prevent teen pregnancy in the Hispanic population is by using condoms. The picture shows a pregnant Hispanic adolescent. Her facial expression shows that she is confused, and potentially depressed about her situation. On the right side of the picture, there is a hand holding a condom. Above the hand there is the phrase in Spanish “Cuál es mas fácil?” This phrase translated in English is “Which is easier?” The purpose of this phrase is for the viewer to realize that it is easier to use a condom during intercourse versus dealing with the hardships of teen pregnancy (Dehlendorf, 2009). At the bottom of the hand holding the condom is the Spanish phrase “¡Úsalo!” which means “Use it!” Regardless how risk averse the viewer may be, this phrase is telling the user that they need to use a condom if they plan on having sex. The brevity in the phrases allows the viewer to focus deeper into the image. This picture is to be made into posters and displayed in Richmond High School in Richmond, CA in the school’s hallways and bulletin boards. Since the majority of the student body in Richmond High School is Hispanic (SARC, 2011), this picture is intended to let students know that it is very easy to prevent teen pregnancy using condoms. Additionally the picture can be displayed on TV screens, which shows school announcements during lunch periods. This will allow all students to view the image since all students enter the cafeteria at some point during the day. This image was created using Adobe Photoshop 5.1 and saved as a jpeg file. The reason for this is to allow the file to be easily transferred on to any hard copy format such as a poster or flyer.
